The Michigan Wetlands Association (MWA) is pleased to announce that we are hosting a presentation by the Michigan Natural Features Inventory (MNFI) next month on the process for new state threatened and endangered species listings and new species that have been listed, with a happy hour afterwards for you to catch up with other wetland professionals and friends from MWA.
“Demystifying ‘the list’: the long road from being a suspected rare species to becoming a legally protected species.”
The meeting will be on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at New Holland Brewing in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our guest speakers, Tyler Bassett and Dan Earl, will provide an overview of the state listing process for plants and animals in Michigan. The overview will include information on how species are listed, reasons leading to a species listing, and how a species is monitored after becoming listed. They’ll also provide highlights of newly listed species, species downlisted or removed from state listing, and other interesting stories that can be seen in different steps of the listing process. Please join us for this “hot topic” after a long cold winter.
